Alexander Cárdenas Acero
Alexander Cárdenas-Acero studied chemistry at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia (UNAL) and obtained his B.Sc. degree in 2022. During his bachelor’s thesis, he worked within the group «Estado Sólido y Catálisis Ambiental (ESCA)» under the supervision of Dr. Edwin A. Baquero. The central theme of his work was the glycerol valorization using N-heterocyclic carbenes as organocatalysts, an approach that he is currently complementing with DFT calculations. During the last semesters of his career, he pursued an M.Sc. in Education (2022) at the «Universidad Distrital Francisco José de Caldas» (Bogotá, Colombia). He focused his research on the generation of didactic changes in college professors by including the Nature of Science (NoS) in teaching Organometallic Chemistry. In 2023, he began his doctoral studies in the ESCA group (UNAL), in co-tutelage with the University of Seville, under the supervision of Drs. Edwin A. Baquero and Luis M. Martínez Prieto. His project is focused on biomass valorization and evaluating potential LOHC from a heterogeneous and homogeneous catalytic perspective. Currently, he is doing his doctoral stay in the «CataNa» group attached to the IIQ-Instituto de Investigaciones Químicas de Sevilla (CSIC-US).
